Improvisational theater and psychotherapy: A new model
Veenstra, Ellen W.. Azusa Pacific University, ProQuest Dissertations Publishing, 2009
This text lays the theoretical framework for psychotherapy using improvisational theater techniques grounded in the principles and theory of improvisational theater. A review of the literature of psychodrama and drama therapy shows the empirical validation of the use of improvisational theater techniques in psychotherapy. The principles of improvisational theater were systematized into a framework from which they could be utilized in psychotherapy and communicated to the field of psychotherapy. The theory of improvisational theater, as articulated by Neva Boyd, is summarized. Case illustrations are included.
